Ganit Forum (Khulna)

Ganit Forum Khulna (Bengali: গণিত ফোরাম খুলনা) or Mathematics Forum Khulna in English, was formed in the year 2008 to raise the standard of learning in mathematics in Bangladesh, specially in Khulna division.

History[edit]

On 4 January 2008, twenty eight teachers, present and former, came together for a meeting at B L College in Khulna, Bangladesh, with a goal to raise the standard of learning of mathematics. It was decided that an organization of mathematics teachers of school, college and university levels, and mathematics graduates should be formed. Thereafter, four more meetings were organized where the organization was decided to be 'Ganit Forum Khulna' (In English : "Mathematics Forum Khulna") and its internal organization was chosen. On 25 April 2008 in the presence of two hundred and seventeen mathematics teachers, Ganit Forum Khulna was formally inaugurated at KUET, Bangladesh. The first President and Secretary of the organization was Professor Harunur Rashid and Professor Mujibor Rahman respectively.

  1. 1st Khulna Mathematics Conference of Mathematics forum Khulna held at Khulna University of Engineering and Technology on 25 April 2008. Professor Nowsher Ali, Vice-chancellor of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology was the chief guest at the conference. The conference was presided by Professor Harunur Rashid, President, Mathematics Forum Khulna.
  2. 2nd Khulna Mathematics Conference of Mathematics forum Khulna held at Khulna University on 6 February 2009. Professor Md Saifuddin Shah, Vice-chancellor of Khulna University was the chief guest at the conference. The conference was presided by Professor Harunur Rashid, President, Mathematics Forum Khulna.
  3. 3rd Khulna Mathematics Conference of Mathematics forum Khulna held at Khulna University of Engineering and Technology on 22 January 2010. Professor Nowsher Ali, Vice-chancellor of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology was the chief guest at the conference. The conference was presided by Professor Harunur Rashid, President, Mathematics Forum Khulna.
  4. 4th Khulna Mathematics Conference of Mathematics forum Khulna held at Khulna University of Engineering and Technology on 21 January 2011. Professor Md Alomgir Hossen, Vice-chancellor of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology was the chief guest at the conference. The conference was presided by Professor Harunur Rashid, President, Mathematics Forum Khulna.
  5. 5th Khulna Mathematics Conference of Mathematics forum Khulna held at Govt B L College, Khulna on 9 March 2012. Professor Shafiullah Sarder, Principal of Govt B L College was the chief guest at the conference. The conference was presided by Professor Harunur Rashid, President, Mathematics Forum Khulna.
  6. 6th Khulna Mathematics Conference of Mathematics forum Khulna held at Khulna University Campus on 18th April 2014. Professor Dr Faeyk Uzzaman, vice chancellor of Khulna University was the chief guest at the conference. The conference was presided by Professor Harunur Rashid, President, Mathematics Forum Khulna.

Objectives[edit]

  1. To engage in mathematics related publication, promotion and discussion of mathematics for the all-around development of mathematics education, mathematics related publication, promotion and discussion of mathematics in Khulna as well as all of Bangladesh.
  2. To hold discussions on difficulties in the imparting of mathematics education and petition appropriate authority.
  3. To liaise with similar councils or organizations in Bangladesh and abroad.
  4. To maintain and promote unity, co-operation and brotherhood amongst mathematicians as a group.

Program[edit]

  1. Book Review - All mathematics textbooks published by National Curriculum and Textbooks Board (NCTB) from second to ninth[clarification needed] standard textbooks were evaluated, and changes were proposed by way of a petition to NCTB.
  2. Workshops mainly for mathematics teachers in schools were organized on 24 October 2008, in Manirampur in the Jessore district: 7 October 2008 in Kustia city, 20 February 2009 at Khulna University of Engineering and Technology(KUET), 3 April 2009 at Bagerhat Government School in Bagerhat, and on 17 April 2009 in Fakirhat in Bagerhat district. The last was primarily for school teachers of mathematics.
  3. On 6 February 2009, the Second Khulna Mathematics Conference and Ganit Forum Khulna's 1st annual general assembly was celebrated in Khulna University. Famous mathematician, retired Professor Dr. Subrata Majumdar from Rajshahi University was made an honorary member of Ganit Forum Khulna and was awarded a Ganit Forum Crest for important contributions in different branches of mathematics.
  4. On 22 January 2010, 'Third Khulna Mathematics Conference' and Ganit Forum Khulna's 2nd annual general assembly was celebrated in Khulna University of Engineering and Technology(KUET). In this conference, first issue of Ganitpotra, a regular Journal of Mathematics Forum Khulna, was published.
