Princess Mathilde Maria Josepha Anna Xaveria of Saxony, Duchess of Saxony (Full German name: Mathilde Maria Josepha Anna Xaveria, Prinzessin von Sachsen, Herzogin zu Sachsen[1][2]) (born 17 January 1936 in Bamberg, Bavaria, Germany[1][2]) is a Princess of Saxony and member of the House of Wettin by birth and a Princess of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha as consort to Johann Heinrich of Saxe-Coburg-Kohary. Mathilde is the fifth and youngest child[1][2] of Friedrich Christian, Margrave of Meissen and his wife Princess Elisabeth Helene of Thurn and Taxis and a younger sister of Maria Emanuel, Margrave of Meissen,[1][2] the current head of the Royal House of Saxony and senior claimant to the defunct throne of the Kingdom of Saxony.
Marriage and issue
Mathilde married Johann Heinrich of Saxe-Coburg-Kohary, eldest son of Rainer of Saxe-Coburg-Kohary and his first wife Johanna Károlyi de Károly-Patty,[1][2] civilly in Munich on 15 October 1968[1][2] and religiously at Andechs Abbey on 12 November 1968.[1][2] Mathilde and Johann Heinrich divorced in 1993.[1][2] The couple had one son:[1][2]
