Contested deletion

This page should not be speedy deleted because... --Martinez2012 (talk) 01:23, 3 July 2011 (UTC) Pastor Dawlin Ureña is one of the most influencial evangelical leaders in all of Latin America and that fact is attested by the high levels of traffic that his website draws. This man´s articles are read by hundreds of thousands of people every month and a simple search on Google.com would show you the kind of name recognition is attached to him.

He is so popular and well known, that when you are typing his name in the Google search engine, it will do the automatic name completion and as a Pastor and Christian leader, he has great influence in Latin America, a large area of the world where, unless providing material that people want, it would be impossible to have such a large audience (due to the diversity of cultures and territories covered). Please, do your research before deleting my work.

Sincerely yours,

Alejandro Martinez Martinez (full time Mexican Missionary at Pastor Dawlin´s organization in the Dominican Republic). --Martinez2012 (talk) 01:23, 3 July 2011 (UTC)

To say that someone is the "most influential" is very subjective. You may believe, with good intentions, that he is the most influential. But how do you know for sure? Have you conducted a nation-wide pole to ask everyone who their favourite pastor is? Alternatively, he may be the most influential pastor; but what if only ten people in the whole country are religious? Of course, I'm not saying that that is how it is, but I'm giving extreme examples to show how your rationale is highly subjective. To circumvent that Wikpedia and its community, over the last decade or so, have written guidelines about what should and what shouldn't be included as articles. Before you make an article about a person, you need to be sure that that person meets the criteria set forth in WP:BIO. If you believe that they do, you need to explain how and to verify you claims. Moreover, you need to use reliable sources to support the verification. Just to review that:
  • Make sure that the subject passes WP:BIO before even starting an article.
  • If the subject passes then WP:BIO makes sure you can verify how.
  • In order to verify how, you need to find and quote reliable sources.
As it stands, the article does not meet these requirements. You are welcome to edit the article as much as you like in order to bring it in line with the stated criteria. But please do not remove the speedy deletion template. Note that being tagged for speedy deletion does not mean that it will be deleted. It just means that urgent action is required. If you believe that you can bring it up to shape then add {{hangon}} at the top of the article. That will give you plenty of time to make the changes. Fly by Night (talk) 02:00, 3 July 2011 (UTC)
If, as you write, Ureña is well-known, surely you can find news articles about him. As it stands now, I don't think any of the article's sources satisfy Wikipedia's guidelines concerning reliable sources.
For the time being, I won't delete the article (although another administrator might). Please improve the sources. Keep in mind that reliable sources don't have to be available on the Internet, although that makes it easier for other editors to verify them. Good luck. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 05:02, 3 July 2011 (UTC)
I think you might have got my post and --Martinez2012's post mixed up. He didn't sign off and it all ran into one. I've added a signature at the end of his post, and outdented your post. (I was indented once, and you twice; that means your post was a reply to me). Hopefully it's clearer now. Fly by Night (talk) 05:55, 3 July 2011 (UTC)
